Author Biography - Long
Lori Alden Holuta's first published work, a poem about a black kitten, was selected for inclusion in Valley View Elementary School's annual creative writing booklet. She was in 3rd Grade and has been writing ever since.
Her lifelong fascination with the Victorian era dovetailed nicely with articles she wrote for The Primgraph, an online magazine which focused on historical reconstructions in virtual worlds, as well as music and book reviews for Steampunk Magazine.
Her first novel, The Flight To Brassbright, endeared itself to teenage girls and a surprising number of grown-ups. The sequel, Down The Tubes, is quite complicated and in a state of ‘nearly done, I hope’. Book three, The Hidden Doors is in a delightful state of disarray, and book four, Off The Rails, is in development.
A hopeless foodie, she also writes cookbooks (Steamed and Steamy, Shredding It). And being a child at heart forever led her to write Full Steam Ahead: A Short Story Collection Where Kids Save the Day. Her love of rhymes and wordplay resulted in Parlor Poetry: A Victorian Versification Abecedary.

Constance is a wild, stubborn young girl growing up poor in a small industrial town in the late 1800's. Beneath her thread-worn exterior beats the heart of a dreamer and a wordsmith. "The novel's greatest asset is Constance herself, a first-person narrator with a warm, witty voice that immediately brings to mind classic picaresque heroines. The world-building is generous without being overwhelming, and the airship sequences in particular are an absolute delight. The prose is light on its feet and the secondary characters, especially the writer Nathaniel, are sketched with real affection." Indie Reader

"These clever short stories were easy to read, and fun for the whole family. I particularly liked The Legend of the Engineer for its humour and holiday feel. I was also intrigued with how well the author built a wonderfully unique city, through these stories, and made such a place feel like home." Author Andrew McCurdy
